CONVERT ANY HEADSET INTO A MODERN SAFETY WEARABLE

The Illyrian II converts any active noise cancelling headset into a safety wearable using simple 3M adhesive that will not leave a residue and is removable.  The tiny unit is usable in a variety of configurations for headband or under the earcup oximeter placements.  Moreover, the Illyrian II is constructed from lightweight aluminum - anodized and laser etched - which will elevate the appearance of your headset and visually demonstrate your commitment to safety, without adding measurable weight or size.  

Additionally, the unit optionally supports mounting of the Aithre boom cannula of the left earcup, for an all-in-one oxygen delivery and hypoxia safety monitoring and alert system.  The popular aluminum Aithre boom cannula is sold separately.

UNOBTRUSIVE HAPTIC VIBRATION

The haptic headset feedback is a first for aviation and one of the highlights of the Illyrian II.  The use of repetitive audio speech for warnings can be obtrusive when flying an aircraft and engaging in communications with ATC or passengers. Instead of disruptive speech, the Illyrian II relies upon a subtle haptic vibration that is amplified by the earcup of an active noise-cancelling aviation headset so it can be heard and felt.  This new modality provides information effectively, yet unobtrusively, and in a manner that is imperceptible to anyone else in the cabin.  

The haptic vibrator settings and controls can be setup via the app, and felt via your headset, due to high levels of biologcial touch receptors around the ears.  A simple pattern alerts the wearer to safety issues without auditory disruption and without requiring an expensive headset upgrade.

APP INDEPENDENT HAPTIC ALERTING

Once the haptic thresholds and parameters are set in the Aithre Connect iOS app, the Illyrian II operates to monitor and provide alerts completely independently of the app, with the exception of carbon monoxide, cabin temperature, and other miscellaneous alerts.  The Illyrian II will alert with a haptic vibration when the threshold is triggered, with a pattern that is easily recognizable based on the principle of more haptics for more trouble.

OPTIONAL ON/OFF AND CUSTOMIZABLE THRESHOLDS - INTERVAL

The Illyrian II comes preconfigured with no haptic alerts.  Each haptic alert must be turned on and the threshold set, one time in the Aithre Connect app.  Thereafter, the settings are stored on the Illyrian II until such settings are reconfigured in the Aithre Connect app.  

Each individual variable can be turned on or off and the threshold levels are adjustable.  Moreover, the frequency of warnings can be adjusted to shorter or longer intervals.  

IN APP OPTIONAL SUPPORT AND ENHANCEMENTS

Supplementing the Illyrian II is the same Aithre Connect iOS app that works with our suite of oxygen system technology and hypoxia management tools.  The app is optional for most of the functions of the Illyrian II as the haptic vibrations work independently once setup; however, the app provides enhancements and is required for CO and cabin temperature haptic vibrations.  Having the Aithre Connect app open, enables the additional warnings of CO and cabin temperature to be passed using your existing installed or portable Shield CO detectors, which are sold separately.

The Illyrian II also provides additional feedback via the iOS Aithre Connect app.  This includes use of the features enjoyed with the Illyrian I, such as SPO2 and heart rate graphing, but also includes Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and trends in head movement.

HEALTHVIEW, AVI, AND SHIELD EX 3.0 REVERSE COMPATIBLE

For customers with the Aithre Healthview and/or Shield EX 3.0, the Illyrian II will show up as a station pulse oximeter.  This means up to 6 Illyrian II can be used in conjunction with the Aithre Healthview for output of multi-station blood oxygen and heart rate information to monitor the safety of you and your passengers.  Additionally, the Illyrian II SPO2 information can be fed directly to your Garmin G3X, Dynon Skyview, and Advanced Flight Systems via the Shield EX 3.0.  The Illyrian II is also usable for biometric feedback purposes of using the Healthview or iOS Aithre Connect app to assist the Avi smart oxygen systems.  Note that some advanced and melt-Illyrian functions require use of the Aithre Connect iOS app.

USE THE APP FOR CARBON MONOXIDE, CABIN TEMPERATURE, AND OTHER HAPTIC ALERTS

The Illyrian II requires active use of the Aithre Connect app for carbon monoxide, cabin temperature, or other alerts.  The Aithre Connect app acts as a data bridge between any Aithre Shield carbon monoxide detector and the Illyrian II to receive carbon monoxide and temperature information.  When the Aithre Connect app is run in either foreground or background with full app permissions enabled, the Illyrian II will alert for user defined thresholds of carbon monoxide and cabin temperatures.

POWER

Power is via an exposed USB micro port.  There is no internal battery, power levels, or on-off button to manage, greatly simplifying operation, reducing the weight and size of the Illyrian II, and minimizing the risk of inadvertent loss of power.  Merely plug the in the Illyrian II to portable or dedicated USB power and the Illyrian II continuously operates for hours and hours at just around 10mA of current.

OXIMETER PAD

The silicone pad is a complete redesign of our original pad form.  It is defined by a flat tapered wing shape with a honeycomb surface pattern.  These improvements make the Illyrian II more comfortable to wear over long flights and less prone to shifting during head talking and movement.  The Illyrian II pad remains designed for either headband or under the ear cup placement and the Aithre Connect iOS app is usable to find the perfect pad placement location for your body.

AWARD-WINNING PULSE OXIMETER

The Illyrian II is based on the same oximeter technology as the Illyrian I, which was given a prestigious Annual Editor's Choice award by Aviation Consumer magazine for 2018.  

The Illyrian II smart oximeter is usable to provide constant, always-on pulse oximeter readings to your iOS device and Apple Watch. SPO2 readings are obtained using a thin sensor pad worn near the ear or on the forehead and then broadcast wirelessly to your Apple phone, tablet, and watch using the Aithre Connect app. Additionally, your SPO2 readings are output via your experimental avionics when using the companion product Shield EX 3.0 or the Healthview.  

Additionally, the Illyrian II features continuous heart rate variability and heart beat monitoring, with continuous output and trend plotting for some key variables.  With this technology, you can visualize how your heart rate and HRV change with altitude and blood oxygenation during different phases of flight.

SUPPORTS UP TO SIX ILLYRIANS

Use up to 6 Illyrian II are usable simultaneously on the iOS Aithre Connect app and Aithre Healthview to monitor you and your passenger SPO2 and BPM data throughout a flight.  Each station is monitored separately with independent plots of blood oxygen and heart rate information per passenger.     

AVI SMART OXYGEN SYSTEM 

The Illyrian II works with the AVI smart oxygen systems to automatically turn on pulsed oxygen with low blood oxygenation readings, when used with the Aithre Connect iOS app. Additionally, the Illyrian unlocks the in-app option for lower than standard titrated oxygen for all altitudes.

HOW IT WORKS

The Turbo makes real-time oxygen while you fly, anytime, anywhere, using a fraction of the capacity of most general aviation electrical alternators, up to 18k MSL for one person and up to 15k MSL for two people.  Based on proven pressure swing adsorption technology (PSA), and adapted for general aviation application, the Aithre Turbo packs a punch with continuous 93%-99% pure oxygen at 1 to 1.4 LPM using just 5 Amps or 80 Watts using standard 12-14V aircraft power.  

A high-performance miniature compressor is used to pressurize intake air and feed it through zeolite sieve beds.  The sieve beds retain the nitrogen in the air and pass oxygen through the adsorption technique (PSA).  

PSA is a proven method of oxygen generation in the medical field, but the Turbo is different in that it operates above 10k MSL where the air is thin.  Additionally, the Turbo kit includes concealed plumbing, nickel-plated panel cannula plugs, and a remote O2 push button for activation.  For those with a GARMIN G3X and GEA24, the Turbo also outputs a discrete fault that can be used to throw a signal on the EFIS when flow, altitude, or temperature are out of range.

NO BATTERY TO CHARGE

Unlike medical portable oxygen concentrators, the Aithre Turbo does not use a Lithium battery.  Instead, the Aithre Turbo relies exclusively on ship power 12-14V, using the aircraft battery or engine-driven electrical alternator.  At just 80W or approximately 5 Amps at 14V supply, the Turbo will fit within virtually any alternator capacity and this results in reduced maintenance, a longer service life, and increased flight safety.  

To address the risk of electrical failure affecting oxygen supply, the Turbo kit can be supplemented with one of Aithre's tumbler-sized backup carbon fiber composite oxygen bottles.  Two popular options are the 47L or 152L bottles, which can be portable or built-in.  

SMALL FOOTPRINT AND WEIGHT

With a ridiculously small footprint of 22.5 cm x 14.5 cm x 15 cm and a weight of just 5 lbs., the Aithre Turbo will free up space, expand your useful load, all while delivering a non-stop supply of oxygen.  

The custom Aluminum anodized housing features a unique hook mount and thumbset screw system for removably securing the Turbo to a wall, floor, or supporting member.  While the Turbo requires intake access to fresh air through its side ports, with center of gravity impact minimized, there are many options for mounting:  the tailcone or nosecone (for pusher or twin engine aircraft), or the baggage compartment.

CONCEALED BUILT-IN PLUMBING AND REMOTE ACCESS

The Aithre Turbo kit provides for a fully built-in oxygen maker system, including the housing along with plumbing, tubing, elbows, branches, panel connections, and a remote push button for activation.  

The plumbing is routed and secured from the housing to the stations for breathing, behind paneling, using the provided tube cutters and bracket mounts.  Activation of the Turbo is provided via a custom backlit push button featuring a glowing O2 indicator.  The button light turns on when the Turbo is activated and turns off if there is a fault: temperature, flow, or pressure altitude.  Dimming of the O2 button can be set in the Aithre Connect iOS app.

GARMIN AND AITHRE CONNECT SUPPORT

Aithre has pioneered the integration of health biometrics into the avionics of the aircraft, and the Turbo is no exception.  Featuring a single discrete output that connects to the GARMIN G3X via the GEA24, the Turbo constantly monitors flow, temperature, and altitude and signals low upon fault to alert of a problem.  Additionally, the Aithre Turbo is fully supported in the Aithre Connect iOS app, for additional real-time flow rate, temperature, and state monitoring.  

CONCENTRATION MONITORING

The oxygen concentration produced by the Aithre Turbo is >93% for 2000 hours or 2 years, whichever comes first.  There are two primary methods to verify the concentration and ensure that the Turbo is operating correctly using the Aithre Illyrian wearable oximeter and using a portable oxygen concentration monitor.  

During flight, the Aithre Illyrian is a headset haptic wearable that provides a continuous readout of blood oxygen to modern avionics, the Aithre Healthview, the Aithre Connect iOS app, and via the native haptic vibratory alerts.  Continuously measured blood oxygen provides a direct indication of the sufficiency of breathing oxygen during all phases of flight.  

Additionally, a portable oxygen concentration monitor can be used on the ground prior to flight to test the flow and purity of oxygen generated using the Aithre Turbo.  The test is simple and takes just seconds to perform.

The Aithre Illyrian and portable oxygen concentration monitor are not included in the price of the Aithre Turbo.

MAINTENANCE

Nothing is airborne for free, but operation of the Turbo is very cost-effective as compared to regular FBO transfilling costs.  With the Aithre Turbo, there is a sieve bed replacement that will need to occur every 2 years or 2000 hours of usage to ensure high purity oxygen generation.  An Aithre approved service center will accept your Turbo via mail, switch out the sieve beds, and verify technical parameters including flow and oxygen concentration.

SAFETY

There are a number of significant safety benefits of the Aithre Turbo.

Notably, the Aithre Turbo does not itself store any pure oxygen so the risks associated with carrying, transporting, and filling pressurized oxygen vessels are completely eliminated. 

Additionally, the Aithre Turbo does not include any Lithium battery.  While portable oxygen concentrators designed for medical purposes rely upon a Lithium battery, this is unacceptable for aviation environments due to Lithium battery fire risk.  The Turbo relies instead on clean continuous power directly from the aircraft alternator, ship battery, and any backup ship battery available. 

COMBINABLE WITH ADDITIONAL TURBO UNITS

The Turbo is a 1 or 2 place system. However, with only an 80 W power requirement, or approximately 5 Amps at 14 V, it is possible to build a 4-place or 6-place system with multiple independent Turbo systems.  For instance, one Turbo may be setup for the left side of an aircraft and another Turbo may be setup for the right side of the aircraft.  A six place aircraft can be similarly configured assuming additional amperage is available.

OPTIONAL BACKUP CARBON FIBER COMPOSITE OXYGEN BOTTLE

For casual use of the Aithre Turbo Oxygen Maker up to and around 12.5k MSL, the serious risks of hypoxia and oxygen deprivation are relatively low and failure of any part of the Turbo or electrical system can be dealt with by descending.  However, if you plan on using the Turbo for oxygen regularly above 12.5k MSL, it is advisable to carry a small backup fixed flow 47L or 152L flight bag style oxygen bottle. Aithre offers a suite of lightweight carbon fiber composite bottles for 2 and 6 hours of continuous flow at 0.5 LPM.  These composite bottles are small, light, and can provide an added layer of safety. The included installation kit also comes with pilot and passenger backup plumbing kit and fittings ready to work with the backup bottle.
